From 1 July, New Zealand has prohibited shopping centres and supermarkets from supplying or selling disposable plastic produce bags, single-use cutlery, and plastic straws. Packaging distributors and retailers who breach this ban face hefty fines of up to 100,000 New Zealand dollars (approx. £50,000 / 452,000 yuan). This marks the latest phase in the country's progressive plastic phase-out, following the initial restrictions launched in October last year.
